WASH and Infrastructure
The Sidama Development Association (SDA) recognizes that access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and essential infrastructure is fundamental for improving the lives of individuals and communities. Therefore, WASH and Infrastructure Development is a crucial thematic area within the SDA’s strategic plan. By addressing critical challenges related to WASH and infrastructure needs, the SDA aims to improve public health, promote economic development, and empower Sidama communities to thrive.
WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene):
• Developing water schemes: This includes constructing and maintaining various water sources, such as springs, hand-dug wells, shallow and deep wells, reservoirs, and distribution systems.
• Building sanitation facilities schools and Health institutions: Constructing and promoting the use of latrines and other sanitation facilities to improve hygiene and public health.
• Establishing Water User Associations (WUAs): Empowering communities through the creation and support of WUAs responsible for managing and maintaining water infrastructure and promoting sustainable water use practices.
• Promoting hygiene packages: Raising awareness and providing education on proper hygiene practices, including handwashing, sanitation, and menstrual hygiene management.

Infrastructure Development:
• Supporting safe local market centers: Contributing to the construction and improvement of local markets to facilitate economic activity and improve livelihoods.
• Constructing small-scale rural roads and bridges: Improving accessibility within rural communities by building and maintaining essential transportation infrastructure.
• Providing solar technology: Promoting clean and sustainable energy solutions through the installation and use of solar panels in communities.
• Empowering communities on communication technology: Raising awareness and facilitating access to communication technologies such as internet and mobile connectivity, promoting information sharing and connectivity within communities.
